Big John has been a practicing survivalist since 1990, beginning in the mountains of Montana and now resides in the black oak forest of southeast Kansas. He has built a self-efficient homestead and lives a simple life based on Henry David Thoreau's classic books - Civil Disobedience and Walden.

In addition to being the only survivalist teaching and selling a bulk supply of heirloom seeds for a long term food solution, here are some of the unique aspects of this survivalist:

    * He created the survivalist garden system teaching so you can safely grow your heirloom garden so your food will not be stolen or your whereabouts detected.
    * Invented and uses weekly an all-natural homemade water filter system that can convert most any water into drinkable water, yet, uses all-natural and replenishable materials.
    * He is the world's only survival dog trainer. His dogs are specially trained to be self-sufficient but extremely loyal. They have been trained to pull carts, sleds and carry backpacks in a variety of terrains and weather conditions. His dogs sell for $1,500 and up. When tshtf your dogs will abandon you when you can no longer feed them, his dogs will never leave his lead.
    * Builds lightweight carts and sleds to enable survival dogs to pull supplies, enabling patriots to transport supplies easily.
    * Invented and uses the survivalist bike, making it possible to transport most any camp in a matter of moments.
    * Has trapped beaver, tracked down black bear and moose with just a knife and his tracking skills. And is currently tracking a rare mountain lion in SE Kansas that has a deformed left foot, and comes on his property on a regular basis in an attempt to get chickens and rabbits.
    * Teaches a survival school on how to hunt pre-industrial age style by tracking and stalking prey, rather than waiting for them to show up.
    * Is skilled in making and using hunting spears and rock slings for hunting.
    * Invented and uses specially converted rat traps to capture squirrel, rabbit and fish.
    * Is also a professional petroleum dowser and the 1994 World Dowsing Champion.
    * Has raised 90% of his own food in Montana and intends to duplicate it again in SE Kansas in 2008, just in time for the great collapse.
    * Lived for eight years in the wilds of Montana without electricity or running water while living in a straw bale house and homeschooling his children.
    * Was one of the originators of the straw bale movement that began in 1989 and has built over 60 straw bale houses.
    * Has been out of the 'system" no checking account or credit card for 18 years, and has no debt.
    * Led a patriot group that numbered 240 members in Montana.
    * Hosted the radio show - OBSERVATIONS OF AN INSANE WORLD in Montana for nearly 2 years.

I have a testimonial to offer:

I had the privilege of attending a lecture by Big John Lipscomb, and "the freeze-dried guy" at Brave New Books in Austin, Texas. I was amazed by Big John's story, as I was by the wisdom that Big John attained from his experience. In fact, I was so taken with his message that I took five pages of notes from Big John's lecture!

After the lecture, I had the opportunity to talk briefly with Big John. I made an order of heirloom seeds from another company prior to finding out about Big John's company. So, I took the opportunity to ask Big John about my purchase, then I held my breath. Big John was honest in his answer to my question, and to my relief, Big John told me that the company with which I placed the order was a good source for seeds.

The point of my testimony is that Big John is an honest man. He could've told me that my seeds were no good, and I needed to get rid of them and order from him, but Big John didn't do that to me. Big John gave me an honest answer. This leads me to believe that Big John speaks the truth when he says that he's "not in it for the money." I believe that Big John really is in the business to help people to survive the coming events.

I just wanted to post where I uploaded some pictures from our weekend together.

Big John has such a beautiful and wonderful family, my chidlren almost didn't let me take them home! 

I vote for Big John's family homestead for the "Better HomeStead and Garden" Series that is still a works in progress in my head...now we know what happens when we let me start thinking, so I'll try not to do too much of it...

Also while we were there, we got to see a live birth of their new baby goat!  Talk about amazing!!!  I need to write more about this in the blog as soon as time allows....
