Hi.
My name is Trish Fotheringham.
I'm a survivor of forms of extreme and ongoing trauma referred to as Ritual Abuse and Mind Control. To cope with an upbringing of this nature, I developed a variety of Dissociative mechanisms, including Dissociative Identity Disorder. I used to have about 150 “alter personalities” and live a life of dis-ease, dysfunction, and despair. Now I am one whole, mostly healthy and happy person.

My healing journey was long, hard, lonely work, but it was also enlightening.

Today I choose to speak out about these still closeted issues because few survivors do, since most of us were taught to keep the secrets under certain threat of some horrible consequence.

I speak out because the truth about ritual abuse, mind control, and particularly about Dissociation, needs to come out of the darkness, into the light of common knowledge. People of all ages, from infant to adult, continue to suffer needlessly, as long as these truths remain unknown.

In general, I’m a student of life and of human nature in particular.
I like to know how things work, why they are the way they are - I have an inquiring mind that seeks always to know more, to make sense and order of reality, this chaos called existence.

My questing mind led me to glean valuable understanding and insights from my life experiences. These important truths are what I want to share with you.
My personal journey as a survivor of ongoing trauma, ritualized abuse, torture, and mind control, taught me to recognize patterns within Dissociation, and within our Beliefs about ourselves, the world we live in, and our place in that world. Patterns that appear in, and apply to, all levels of human existence - individual, communal, global, natural/environmental, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - you name it, as far as I can tell, these patterns apply to everything!

As to my actual cause/message, well, yes, it is to do with educating about the realities of Ritual Abuse and Mind Control.
Primarily though, my goal is to educate about these directly connected topics of Dissociation, and of our Beliefs about ourselves, the world we live in, and our place in that world. Especially in regards to how these very important things work, and the necessary understandings of them to promote and assist positive change and healing.

To this end, I authored an article in 2007, providing a comprehensive description of the how’s and why’s of my Ritual Abuse & Mind Control upbringing. Titled "Patterns in Mind Control: A First Person Account,” this article was published, minus Epilogue, as a chapter in a book that was released in September 2008. The textbook-style book:"Ritual Abuse in the Twenty-First Century: Psychological, Forensic, Social and Political Considerations," is being promoted as "The Definitive Ritual Abuse Resource of the Decade." The editors, Pam & Randy Noblitt, gathered articles by 27 authors, experts from 7 countries and various related fields, plus my personal experience chapter. Mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual aspects of pertinent issues are addressed. This book is of particular benefit to all who work with "high-risk" categories of people, in a range of fields including, but not limited to, mental health and substance abuse, law and criminal justice, social work, child, youth and family, as well as medical, educational, and institutional.

As an immediate result of my chapter in the "RA in the 21st book," one of the other authors in the book, psychologist Dr. Ellen Lacter from San Diego, came to my hometown in Canada in Oct. 2008 to film a 3-hour video interview of me. “Healing From Ritual Abuse and Mind Control: Survivor Trish Fotheringham Speaks Out,” is now available through this website, as a DVD set. Its purpose is to provide ideas, suggestions, and guidance for survivors, therapists, clergy, loved ones and support people.

Further, Ellen Lacter has made the Epilogue to my "Patterns in Mind Control: A Firdst Person Account" available in text on her website: www.endritualabuse.org. Titled “The Moral of My Story,” this Epilogue is also included as a 12½ minute Special Feature video clip on the DVD.

Part of the message in what I detail and recommend in the interview with Ellen is that of each person being unique, finding what works for them, using alternative approaches and techniques that are outside the box mixed with the more traditional that applies - advising each person's therapy must essentially be tailor-made, and allowed to shift, change and evolve over time as the person needs.

In the future:

The same film producers who did the DVD are discussing developing ideas and seeking grants and funding to film a more general documentary on the overall topic. My story and message is to be one presented as one of three stories on the topic of “Hidden/Secret Abuses/Traumas”. A second story is that of a Native Residential School Abuse Survivor. The third story is yet to be finalized. The plan is to aim this documentary at the general public, show it at film festivals, and have it aired on TV documentary style shows. Accomplishing this will involve making the topics believable to the masses by providing background, expert/specialists comments, etc from those who can validate its existence.
