The Journey...to Spiritual Awakening and Wholeness began for Anneliese Widman in Germany. At the age of seven she emigrated with her parents to the United States, the land of hope, of promises, of opportunities, and of dreams fulfilled. It would be that for Anneliese, too, but only after many years of perseverance, hard work and faith. The tough questions kept gnawing at her... all revolving around the critical one: Who am I? God, who am I, really?

She discovered early on that she had been born to a tyrannical mother and a sadistic wimp for a father. Events in her early life kept reinforcing this. She escaped while still in grade school through dance, but her parents’ cruelty had already left its mark. The result for her was many failed relationships. She would learn later, much later, the “why” for this too.

She had her dancing, however. And dance she did with full energy and talent. Her dance became her dance career, an amazing dance career. She rose to prominence and performed in many Broadway shows: among them, A Flag Was Born starring Marlon Brando and Dear Judas with E.G. Marshall. She shared the marquee with Mort Stahl in The Next President. She also danced with the New York City Opera Company and overseas in Up in Central Park. She taught the Imbal Dance Company in Israel. She performed in Merce Cunningham’s first dance company as well as in many other modern dance companies in existence at that time. She established her own dance company and choreographed for it. The list goes on and on.

Yet the question persisted: “WHO AM I, GOD? WHO AM I, REALLY?” She had been able to escape from her life through dance for a time. But her personal life was still in shambles. Nevertheless, Anneliese continued her search for answers. She sought therapy, which led to her discovery of Bioenergetics. This therapeutic modality deals with the body along with the analytic work that Freud had innovated. Therapy became the second formative experience in her life. Through Bioenergetics, Anneliese learned that repressed feelings produce muscular armoring and that, in her case, this armoring was preventing her from becoming not only a fully realized dancer, but a whole person. With the help of Dr. Alexander Lowen, one of the founders of Bioenergetic Analysis, Anneliese learned to experience the real joy of movement and the fullness of living. Bioenergetics motivated Anneliese to challenge the then-existing conventional dance theory and to revolutionize the dance world.

Her personal unraveling led her to unlock other mysteries in her life. Like all others who seek greater meaning in their lives, she learned to look inward for answers. She realized more fully the role her parents had played and through her continued search began to understand that she had chosen these parents prenatally in order for her to evolve to where she is at the present time. She refers to this innovative idea in her books as reflectivism.

NOW, Anneliese Widman, Ph.D., shares with humanity what she has discovered. Through her psychotherapeutic practice, she helps equip those who desire a purposeful life to pursue their own personal journey to wholeness.

In the best tradition of quest literature, Widman shares with the reader what she has learned from her own struggles--her desire for more of Self. She does this in a way that will be useful to others who are seeking to heal themselves. It is her journey...but this dramatic and moving spiritual writing becomes a guide for the reader’s personal path.

And finally, Anneliese Widman firmly believes that everyone has a unique mission in life. Hers is to help explain the mysteries of the female/male energies in one’s being...a concept written about by Plato twenty-five hundred years ago. She truly believes that this concept, when realized, can be instrumental in ending the war of the sexes and bringing the person to the Godself.

She has come a long way since she was the girl who emigrated from Germany. Anneliese has unlocked the door from a “NOT I” state, traveled through an “I” state, and longs for and strives for an “I AM” state. She encourages others as well as the entire world to discover their “I AM.” She truly believes that only then is the person whole and complete: in her and his connection to the Godself.
