Born in Mozambique in Africa and raised in Portugal, Val has been writing since the age of 5, when he uncovered an old typewriter around the house. As soon as he figured out its workings, he began feeding it sheet after sheet of paper, and pumping out poems, snippets of stories and the like. Over the years, the typewriter gave way to a computer, and fiction and poetry gave way to lines of computer code and sales presentations, although neither were truly fully abandoned.  Through the years, and after many frequent flyer miles across several continents, the ideas kept cropping up in dreams or in the shower or in the car. At first just teasing the mind, but then stronger and stronger, begging to come out. So it was that Val finally opened the gates and let those thoughts pour out. From song to poem, and short fiction to screenplay, the gates are open... watch out world! With 4 languages, an eclectic music selection, a wide experience of travel and a good dose of imagination, you are guaranteed to find something to love in his writing!
Having optioned his first script in 2007, and having seen it not get produced, Val decided to learn how to produce and direct his own work, and found an even greater passion for directing and seeing his scripts through to completion.

After moving to Austin, Texas, Val has since completed shooting a 42-minute sci-fi pilot episode for 7 Shades of Lenity (written, produced and directed) which is now released as 7 minute shorts (www.7ShadesOfLenity.com), he also has several shorts in the can and in pre-production, such as “When She Smiles” (a short on the subject of Human Trafficking), Aftermath (another sci-fi short, set in a post-apocalyptic future), Sunset in McDade (a paranormal story of love and revenge) and Perseverance (a romantic short).

Amnesia is a story about survival, love, friendship and overcoming daunting odds.

The events are based on true documented violations of human rights, both in mental institutions and at the hands of human traffickers.

Ultimately, this movie is about human rights… the rights we have as beings, to freedom, happiness and dreams.

This movie started back in 2007 when writer/director Val Gameiro first met fellow director Michael Cory Davis who was looking to shoot a horror film.

Val met Michael during a showing of Cargo: Innocence Lost, a documentary film on human trafficking with a strong narrative thread tying everything together. It was that movie, which to this day still haunts Val, which spawned Amnesia.

The desire to do something to make people aware of human trafficking and it’s horrors, as well as a desire to stop similar, if not worse, violations of human rights in the field of mental health is what led Val to pen this film.

Having started writing for film in 1998, and after moving to Austin, Texas, Val decided to start directing his own work and fell in love with the process, and spent his available time and funds on working on as many short films as possible, while learning many facets of the business, including Sound Design, Editing, etc.

This is an idea whose time has come. We hope you like it as much as we do.

Summary: An ordinary man who wakes up with no memory in an isolated mental institution must fight to regain it before the resident psychiatrist takes over his mind.
